Jehovah's Witnesses ease rules on blood transfusions
Story submitted by: Don McAreavy

By: Olivia Ireland - 5 Days Ago
Jehovah's Witnesses has updated its policy on blood transfusions to allow members to have their own blood removed, stored, and "given back" in medical procedures.
While the change will enable members to have transfusions of their own blood - in planned surgeries, for example - they continue to be prohibited from receiving the blood of others.
Gerrit Losch, part of the group's leadership, announced the move saying "each Christian must decide for himself how his blood will be used in medical and surgical care".
Jehovah's Witnesses is a Christian-based religious movement, probably best known for its door-to-door evangelism. It claims 144,000 active members in the UK, and nine million worldwide.
The group has historically ruled that members cannot accept blood transfusions, as - according to the groups website - both the Old and New Testaments "command us to abstain from blood".
"Our core belief regarding the sanctity of blood remains unchanged," a spokesperson for the group said.
Some former members have criticised the move, saying it "doesn't go far enough".
Mitch Melin told the Associated Press: "If one of Jehovah's Witnesses faces a medical emergency with significant blood loss, or if a child requires multiple transfusions to treat certain types of cancers, this policy change does not grant them complete freedom of conscience to accept potentially life-saving interventions involving donated blood".

The Star System Where "God Lived": A Forgotten History
(Jehovah's Witness Rendition)
Thy Kingdom Come
(Studies in the Scriptures, Volume 3, Page 327, 1886)
“Alcyone, then, as far as science has been able to perceive, would seem to be ‘the midnight throne’ in which the whole system of gravitation has its central seat, and from which the Almighty governs his universe.”
Did you know that for over 60 years, the Watchtower leadership of the Jehovah’s Witnesses believed that the literal throne of Almighty God was located in a specific star cluster?
The Pleiades Star System and specifically the star Alcyone was considered the center of the universe.
Why did they believe this?
* Job 38:31: They interpreted the verse "Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades?" as a coded hint from God about His location.
* "The Midnight Throne": Early Watchtower publications (like the Studies in the Scriptures) claimed that the Pleiades was the "pivot" around which the entire universe revolved.
* Scientific "Confirmation": At the time, some astronomers wrongly believed the Pleiades was the center of the galaxy. The Watchtower used this to "prove" their spiritual claims.
When did it change?
This wasn't just a passing comment—it was official doctrine printed in Watchtower publication and even reflected in the design of their older buildings. It wasn't until 1953 (in the November 15th issue of The Watchtower) that they finally abandoned the idea, stating “that the Pleiades should no longer be viewed as the literal seat of God.”
This matter was further clarified in the 1957 Watchtower:
“Some attribute striking qualities to these constellations or star groups and on the basis of such they then offer private interpretations of Job 38:31, 32…. Their views are not always sound from the standpoint of astronomy, and when viewed scripturally they are completely without foundation.…….
Pleiades can no longer be considered the center of the universe, and it would be unwise for us to try to fix God’s throne as being at a particular spot in the universe.”
Why this matters:
I
I
It serves as a reminder that "new light" often involves moving away from ideas that were once taught as absolute, "scientific" biblical truth. It also shows how early religious movements often tried to blend the emerging science of the Victorian era with their interpretation of Scripture. History is often stranger than fiction!
Book of Abraham 3:2-3 on Kolob
(Mormon Rendition)
“And I saw the stars, that they were very great, and that one of them was nearest unto the throne of God; and there were many great ones which were near unto it; And the Lord said unto me; These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God; I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.
In an explanation of an Egyptian hypocephalus that was part of the Joseph Smith Papyri, Smith interpreted one set of hieroglyphics as representing: Kolob, signifying the first creation, nearest to the celestial, or the residence of God.
“The Mystery of Mormonism,”
By Stuart Martin
London: Odhams Press, 1920, page 269
Found in the B.H. Roberts Foundation Website
“Joseph Smith, the first Mormon prophet, stands next to Christ (Smith now being one of the Gods of his generation), and Christ stands next to Adam. Above the latter is Jehovah, and above Jehovah is Elohim, who is the highest God of whom we in this world have any knowledge. Elohim lives in the planet Kolob, which is near the centre of our system; it revolves on its axis once in a thousand years—hence the biblical statement that "a thousand years are but a day in Thy house."
Concerning Kolob, It’s Unclear
“Is Kolob a star or planet?” It’s Unclear
Kolob is a celestial body mentioned in the Book of Abraham and in Facsimile 2. It is either a star or planet, a “great” and “governing” celestial object, it is “near unto” God and “nigh unto the Throne of God.” It was used to tell relative time and was associated with creation.
“Did we live on Kolob in the pre-existence?” It’s Unclear
In the early twentieth century, Orson F. Whitney wrote a poem depicting Kolob as the location of the pre-mortal council. Some other church leaders have also taught this, but the Book of Abraham doesn’t explicitly say.
“Isn’t Kolob just a symbol for Christ” Possibly?
Some Latter-day Saint writers have drawn a symbolic connection between Kolob and Jesus Christ, but the Book of Abraham itself doesn’t seem to make this connection explicit. The text seems to describe Kolob as if it were a literal celestial body.
“Do people live on Kolob?” It’s Unclear
Some early Latter-day Saints seemed to hold this view. Brigham Young mentioned on one occasion there being inhabitants on Kolob and other “distant planets.” Others taught that Kolob had inhabitants but did not specify if that’s where souls return to after death. The book of Abraham isn’t clear on this.
“Did the earth fall from Kolob’s orbit or the presence of God after the Fall of Adam and Eve?” It’s Unclear
The Book of Abraham isn’t explicit on this. However, Brigham Young and John Taylor did teach this concept.
“Do we know where Kolob is?” No
Its most commonly associated with the star Sirius it’s also sometime associated with other stars or star patterns, like Thuban (Alpha Draconis) or the Pleiades star cluster, or even placed at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. There is no official doctrine on where Kolob is or otherwise what kind of celestial object it may be.
“Has Kolob influenced Latter-day Saint culture?” Yes
Latter-day Saints have used Kolob as a source of inspiration for poems, and hymns. One author even used Kolob as the basis for a 2016 Graphic novel.
“Did Kolob inspire Battle Star Galactica?” Seems Like It
Glen A. Larson, an executive producer for the sci-fi TV show Battle Star Galactica, was an active Latter-day Saint. He reportedly “Infused his series mythology with too many Mormon references to ignore.” Including a planet called Kobol and other Latter-day Saint themes and concepts.
“Why do people make fun of Kolob so much?”
It is a strange concept. For example, in the Book of Mormon musical song “I Believe,” it’s sung: “I believe that God lives on a planet called Kolob! I believe that Jesus has his own planet as well.”
“But it is weird, right” Yes
The Kolob idea draws heavily from the Book of Abraham which is within the Standard Works of the Mormon Church.
This is an Egyptian Funeral Text that accompanied four mummies that Joseph Smith bought to “translate.”
It is a book of breathings for a pagan Egyptian priest by the name of Hor, and has nothing to do with Abraham.
This is the biggest fraud palmed off on the Latter-day Saints and yet the Mormon Church continues to print this lie and present it as “Scripture.”

'Adolf Hitler Receives Work on His Behalf in England Temple'

Many people may not realize that general salvation in Mormonism means that practically everyone born on this earth will certainly go to one of three kingdom of glory. This includes Adolf Hitler, the crazed Nazi leader who guided Germany into murdering millions of people.
On December 10, 1993, someone went into the London, England temple and was baptized on the behalf of Adolf Hitler. This provided him a chance to receive the Mormon gospel. That same day he was endowed. A few months later, Hitler was sealed to his parents on March 12, 1994. Hitler, like Mao, Pol Pot, and other despots, will have a chance at heavenly glory because, in reality, there is no hell for any of them since they cannot be “sons of perdition” and thus cast into outer darkness.

LDS Church President Dallin Oaks makes a controversial pick for new apostle: Clark Gilbert
“Clark Gilbert may be the most consequential apostolic appointment in the modern church,” historian says.

Four months into his tenure as president of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dallin H. Oaks has made one
of his most consequential and, frankly, controversial moves as leader
of the global faith.
He picked Clark G. Gilbert as the newest apostle, a lifetime appointment the church announced Thursday.
Gilbert,
the faith’s commissioner of education, has gained a reputation as a
culture warrior, eager to defend and define orthodoxy, while combating
the rise of secularism, especially at church-owned schools.
He fills the seat left vacant by the December death of another educator, apostle Jeffrey R. Holland.
The
55-year-old Gilbert was called Wednesday and ordained Thursday by Oaks
and the other members of the governing First Presidency and the Quorum
of the Twelve Apostles, according to a news release. He has served as a general authority Seventy since April 2021 and as education commissioner since August 2021.
“This
is an amazing time to point people to the Savior Jesus Christ,” Gilbert
said in the release. “When we do that, we can find joy and comfort and
peace in him. As [former church] President [Russell M.] Nelson once
said, it’s much harder to find happiness where it doesn’t exist. And
we’re so grateful that I have this calling now to witness that Jesus is
the Christ. If people all across the world will look to him, he will
make their lives better, more meaningful, more joyful. And it happens in
and through our Savior Jesus Christ.”
Gilbert’s elevation is Oaks’ second apostolic selection. In November, a little more than a month after Nelson died, he chose Gérald Caussé,
a 62-year-old Frenchman known for his ecclesiastical oversight of the
faith’s financial empire and his support of environmental stewardship
and sustainability.
Utah Lt. governor defends decriminalizing polygamy amid claim it 'emboldens' abusers
by Brian Mullahy, KUTV - Wed, February 4th 2026 at 7:19 PM
Updated Wed, February 4th 2026 at 7:53 PM
SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Utah Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson is defending a measure she promoted six years ago to decriminalize polygamy after an advocate said the move has hurt people in polygamous communities.
"The hopes were it would feel safe for people to come out of polygamy so their families wouldn't be prosecuted," said Tonia Tewell, director of the Holding out HELP—a group that assists people leaving polygamy. "Our agency instead has seen that people are coming out because the perpetrators, who were abusing their people in the first place, seem to be emboldened."
She said "abuse rates" have climbed among clients of Holding out HELP, and maintained it's "directly related to the decriminalization of polygamy."

LDS Church - "We do not believe in what Christian world calls the doctrine of the Holy Trinity"
Dallin H. Oaks
Story submitted by: Don McAreavy
February 4, 2026 09:10 AM
Further Commentary on Video By Don McAreavy:
President Dallin H. Oaks on the Trinity, Our first article of faith states that “we believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.” We join other Christians in this belief in a Father and a Son and a Holy Ghost BUT WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT THEM IS DIFFERENT FROM BELIEFS OF OTHERS. WE DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THE CHRISTIAN WORLD CALLS THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY TRINITY.
“In his first vision Joseph Smith saw two distinct personages two beings thus clarifying that the then prevailing beliefs concerning God and the godhead were not true.” (John 1:18)
In contrast to the belief that God is an incomprehensible and unknowable mystery, we believe that the truth about the nature of God and our relationship to Him is knowable and is the key to everything else in our doctrine. (9-1:04)
The Bible records Jesus’ great intercessory prayer where he declared that “this is life eternal that they might know thee, the Only True God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent.”
The effort to know God and His work began before immortality and will not be concluded here. The prophet Joseph Smith taught “It will be a great while after you have passed through the veil before you will have learned all the principles of exaltation.” (1:44)
We build on the knowledge that we acquired in the pre-mortal spirit world, thus is trying to teach Israelites the nature of God and His relationship to His children the prophet Isaiah declared, as recorded in the Bible, “To whom then will you liken God, or what likeness will you compare unto Him? Have ye not known, have ye not heard, hath it not been told you from the beginning, have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?”
We know that the three members of the godhead are separate and distinct beings. We know this from instruction given by the prophet Joseph Smith. “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s, the Son also, but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh bones but has a personage of spirit. Were it not so the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.” (2:59) (ROMANS 8:9-11)
We
understand our relationship to the members of the godhead from what
is revealed about the Plan of Salvation.
Questions like, where did we come
from, why are we here, and where are we going
are answered in what the Scriptures call the Plan
of Salvation, the Great Plan of
Happiness, or The Plan of Redemption. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is
central to this plan.
As
spirit children of God, in an
existence prior to mortality, we desired a destiny of eternal life,
but progressed as far as we could without a mortal experience in a
physical body. To provide that opportunity our Heavenly Father
presided over the creation of this world where, deprived of our
memory of what preceded our mortal birth we could prove
our willingness to keep His commandments and
experience and grow through the other challenges of mortal life.
(5:07) (1 Cor. 15:46, Zechariah 12:1)
But
in the course of that mortal experience, and as a result of the fall
of our first parents, we would suffer spiritual death by being cut
off from the presence of God, be soiled by sin, and become subject to
physical death.
The
Fathers plan anticipated and provided ways to overcome all of those
barriers. Knowing the purpose of God’s
Great Plan we now consider the
perspective roles of the three members of the god-head in that plan.
We
begin with the teaching from the Bible. In concluding his second
letter to the Corinthians the Apostle Paul makes this almost off-hand
reference to the godhead of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. “The
grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the
communion (fellowship) of the Holy Ghost be with you all.”
This
Biblical Scripture represents the god-head and references the all
defining and motivating love of God the Father, the merciful
and saving mission of Jesus Christ, and
the fellowship of the Holy Ghost. It all begins with God the Father.
While we know comparatively little about Him, what we know is
decisive in understanding His Supreme
Position, our relationship to Him, and
his superintending role in the Plan of
Salvation, the Creation, and all else
that follows. (7:03) (John 1:3,
Colossians 1:15-17)
As
Elder Bruce R. McConkie wrote just before his death “In
the ultimate and final sense of the word, there is Only
One True and Living God. He
is the Father, the Almighty Elohim, Supreme Being, the Creator and
Ruler of the Universe.”
He is the God and Father of Jesus
Christ as well as all of us.
President
David O. McKay taught that “the first
fundamental truth advocated by Jesus Christ was this, that behind,
above, and over all there is God the Father Lord of heaven and
earth.”
What
we know of the nature of God the Father is mostly what we can learn
from the ministry and teachings of His Only Begotten Son Jesus
Christ.
As
Elder Jeffery R. Holland has taught, one of the paramount purposes of
Jesus’ ministry was to reveal to mortals “what
God our Eternal Father is like, to reveal and to make personal to us
the true nature of His Father, our Father in heaven.”
The
Bible contains an apostolic witness that Jesus was
the express image of His Father’s person,
which merely elaborates Jesus’ own teachings that “He
that hath seen me hath seen the Father.”
(8:49)
God
the Father is the Father of our spirits.
We are His children.
He loves us and all that He does is for our eternal benefit. He is
the author of the Plan of Salvation,
and it is by His power that His Plan
achieves its purposes for the ultimate glory of His children. (Eph.
2:1-5; 5:6-8)
To
mortals the most visible member of the godhead is Jesus Christ. A
great doctrinal statement by the First Presidency in 1909 declares
Him to be “the firstborn among all
the sons of God, the first begotten in the spirit, and the only
begotten in the flesh.”
The Son, greatest of all, was chosen by the Father to carry out the
Fathers plan, to exercise the Father’s power to create worlds
without number and to save the
children of God from death by his resurrection
and from sin by his atonement.
(9:59)
This
supernal sacrifice is truly called the central act of all human
history. On those unique and sacred occasions when God the Father
personally introduced the Son, He has said “This
is my beloved Son, hear him.”
Thus
it is Jesus Christ, Jehovah the Lord God of Israel, who speaks to and
through the prophets. So it is when Jesus appeared to the Nephites,
after His resurrection, he introduced himself as “God
of the whole earth.”
So
it is that Jesus often speaks to the prophets of the Book of Mormon,
and to the Latter-day Saints as the
Father and the Son. A title
explained in the First Presidency’s inspired doctrinal exposition
just a hundred years ago. (2 Nephi
31:21 BOM). All 3= One True God
The
third member of the god-head is the Holy Ghost also referred to as
the Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Lord, and the Comforter. He is the
member of the god-head that is the agent of personal revelation. As
a personage of spirit He can indwell in us and preform the essential
role of communicator between the Father and the Son, and the children
of God on earth. (11:27)
Many
scriptures teach that His mission is to testify of the Father and the
Son. The Savior promised that Comforter will teach us all things,
bring all things to our remembrance and guide us into all truth.
Thus the Holy Ghost helps us discern between truth and falsehood,
guides us in our major decisions, and helps us through the challenges
of mortality. He is also the means by which we are sanctified, that
is, cleansed and purified from sin.
So
how does understanding this heavenly revealed doctrine about the
god-head and the plan of salvation help us with our challenges today?
Because
we have the truth about the god-head, and our relationship to them,
the purpose of life, and the nature of our eternal destiny, we have
the ultimate road map
and assurance for our journey through mortality.
We
know who we worship, why we worship, we know who we are and what we
can become. We know who makes it all possible and we know what
we must do to enjoy the ultimate
blessings that come through God’s Plan of Salvation.
How
do we know all of this? We know by the revelations of God through His
prophets and to each of us individually. Attaining what the Apostle
Paul described as “the measure of the
stature of the fullness of Christ.”
Requires far more than acquiring
knowledge. It is not even enough for us to be convinced of the
gospel.
We
must act and think so that we
are converted by it.
In
contrast to the institutions of the world which teach us to know
something, the Plan of Salvation
and the Gospel of Jesus Christ challenge
us to become something.
As
President Thomas S. Monson taught us in our last general conference,
“essential to the plan of salvation is
our Savior Jesus Christ. Without His atoning
sacrifice all would be lost. It
is not enough however merely to believe in Him and His Mission, we
need to work and learn search and pray, repent and improve.
We need to know God’s laws and
live them. We need to receive
His saving ordinances. Only by
doing so will we obtain true eternal happiness.
From
the depths of my soul and in all humility, President
Monson declared, I testify of the
great gift which is our
Heavenly Fathers Plan
for us. It is the one Perfect
Path to peace and happiness both
here and in the world to come.
I
add my testimony to that of our beloved Prophet, President, I
testify that we have a Heavenly Father who loves us. I testify we
have a Holy Ghost who guides us, and I testify that Jesus Christ, our
Savior, who makes it all possible, In the name of Jesus Christ

Polygamous sect's sway has dwindled in twin towns on Arizona-Utah line. Residents enjoy new freedoms

Two neighboring towns on the Arizona-Utah border that once were a haven for a polygamous religious sect have entered a new era. Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah, were once controlled by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. (AP Video: Ty ONeil and Rick Bowmer)
COLORADO CITY, Ariz. (AP) — The prairie dresses, walled compounds and distrust of outsiders that were once hallmarks of two towns on the Arizona-Utah border are mostly gone.
These days, Colorado City, Arizona, and neighboring Hildale, Utah, look much like any other town in this remote and picturesque area near Zion National Park, with weekend soccer games, a few bars, and even a winery.
Until courts wrested control of the towns from a polygamous sect whose leader and prophet, Warren Jeffs, was imprisoned for sexually assaulting two girls, youth sports, cocktail hours and many other common activities were forbidden. The towns have transformed so quickly that they were released from court-ordered supervision last summer, almost two years earlier than expected.
It wasn’t easy.
“What you see is the outcome of a massive amount of internal turmoil and change within people to reset themselves,” said Willie Jessop, a onetime spokesman for the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who later broke with the sect. “We call it ‘life after Jeffs’ — and, frankly, it’s a great life.”
A dark turn
Some former members have fond memories of growing up in the FLDS, describing mothers who looked out for each other’s kids and playing sports with other kids in town.
To close roads during the Salt Lake Temple open house, the LDS Church would have to pay. Here’s how much.

The opening of the renovated Salt Lake Temple is more than a year away, but Salt Lake City and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are already planning for the huge visitor crowds expected to flood downtown for the historic event.
Estimates indicate between 3 million and 5 million visitors could come to Utah’s capital to see inside the iconic six-spired house of worship, which has not been open to the general public since just before its original 1893 dedication.
The church is proposing a seven-month fenced closure to vehicular traffic for public sections of North Temple and West Temple immediately adjacent to the pioneer-era landmark. Those closures could last from early spring of 2027 to October, according to emerging details.
