Some Good Questions to Ask
Reaching people who are caught up in the Kingdom of the Cults begins with having a genuine heart for them, being a good listener and helping them to think for themselves. For example, you can get to know what they believe so you can engage them in an intelligent conversation about the Word of God and even ask questions they are not expecting. On that note, here’s a quick snapshot from Don McAreavy regarding how we as believers can effectively share our faith with Mormons by asking the right questions.
BACKGROUND
Mormons believe they hold ‘restored’ priesthood authority that was lost after the death of the apostles. They claim the Aaronic Priesthood was bestowed on Joseph Smith by John the Baptist in 1829.
A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS TO ASK
Ask: What is more important, being a member of the ‘restored church’ or having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
The Bible teaches three conditions needed to hold the Aaronic Priesthood:
1. You must be an Israelite,
2. From the tribe of Levi, and
3. A fleshly descendant of Aaron.
Ask: Did Jesus hold the Aaronic Priesthood?
Hebrews 7:14-16 states He is from the tribe of Judah.
Ask: Did the Apostle Paul hold the Aaronic Priesthood?
Philippians 3:5 states he is from the tribe of Benjamin.
Ask: Do 12-year-old Mormon boys hold more priesthood authority than the Son of God and the Apostle Paul who wrote half of the New Testament?
Ask: What does John 1:12 mean? “But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” (Note that power means “authority” here in the Greek.)
Ask: Could you explain 1 Peter 2:5 which says we are a holy priesthood?
Ask: Could you explain 1 Peter 2:9 which says we are a royal priesthood?
Ask: Could you explain Matthew 18:20 where it is written: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Again, which is more important, the ‘restored Old Testament priesthood’ or a relationship with Jesus Christ who gives us His authority and two New Testament priesthoods?
